Dr Yacoub Petro, inaugural winner of our 2016 Capstone students project ‘Leaders of the Future’ competition, presented and lead discussion on his doctoral thesis and associated White Paper funded and published by Project Management Institute titled “Ambidexterity through Project Portfolio Management: Resolving Paradoxes in Organizations” (2017).
Dr Petro explained that organizational ambidexterity is defined as the ability of an organization to simultaneously explore the market and the surrounding environment, exploiting their corporate knowledge and resources in order to improve performance and ensure sustainability. The aim is to build on current strengths while responding to business challenges of a changing environment. This can be done in an increasingly ‘projectified’ world by utilizing an ambidextrous approach to project portfolio management.
